The Halo Effect

How to Quickly Ignite Passion and Energy in 500+ Employees

Each year, SmartBear’s global go-to-market kickoff aligns hundreds of sales and marketing leaders around the year ahead. For this program, we reimagined the kickoff as a fully immersive, AI-driven movie premiere using storytelling, personalization, and experience design to energize the organization and launch our new platform narrative.

The Challenge

With 400–500 global attendees, the annual kickoff needed to do more than share roadmaps and tactics.
We had to create real momentum around a major platform shift (the new SmartBear hubs), align teams around AI-driven innovation, and motivate a highly distributed organization to feel personally connected to the strategy.

The Strategy

We transformed the kickoff into a cinematic experience built around a fictional movie premiere called The Halo Effect, which is a story about how AI-powered software and teams create a ripple effect that improves products, customers, and the world of software quality.

The experience included:

  • A two-minute cinematic trailer that opened the event and framed the entire narrative

  • A full on-site transformation of the venue into a movie premiere environment, complete with a branded “box office,” large-scale posters, and immersive environmental graphics

  • Personalized AI-generated hero avatars for attendees and leaders, integrated into on-screen moments and pre-event visuals

The creative concept tied directly to SmartBear’s platform and AI positioning, reinforcing how our teams—and our technology—work together to create meaningful impact across the software lifecycle.

The Business Impact

Why it worked

By combining cinematic storytelling with large-scale personalization, the experience moved beyond information delivery and created emotional buy-in by the associates. This helped teams visualize themselves as part of the strategy and the future of the brand.

*Side note: After sharing a few of the trailer visuals on social media, multiple people outside the company genuinely thought the movie was real and that I was involved in an actual film production. That level of realism and polish became an unexpected proof point of how powerful the creative execution truly was.
